Week 14: I Know You! 9-8-07

The Experts write: “A big spurt is happening in your baby's brain development that coincides with significant behavioral changes. Your baby is more attuned to the outside world and more sensitive to changes in his environment.

The part of the brain that governs hand-eye coordination and allows a baby to recognize objects is developing rapidly now. His hearing, language, and smell have also become more receptive and active. When your baby hears your voice these days, he may even look directly at you and start gurgling or trying to talk back.”
This week they turned 3 months. It amazing how quickly they have grown out of their clothes! At times, I find myself squeezing them into an outfit that just days ago fit loose. I’m trying to take pictures of them at least once in each new outfit they put on. I took pictures of them with their bear hats which slowly inched upward off their heads to its normal stretching size. In Week 9 and Week 2, you can see pictures of them with their hats. They have truly gotten their money’s worth out of those hats! I also took pictures of them with their bear, glow worm and with the stuffed pacifier my dad gave them at the hospital. The pacifier has a funny story. My dad thought it was a bath toy because on the tag it said baby shower toy!
At Birth, preemie pampers fitted them loose and now size 2 pampers fit them perfectly. They stayed several more days at the hospital because they struggled in finishing 2 ounce formula bottles. This week they are drinking from 8 ounce bottles! They also sleep from midnight to six in the morning, which Ed and I now consider a full nights rest! They request so much of our attention when they are awake. Ed sings to them while they sing. Something they join in the singing with their own version of the songs!!

My cousin Jackie brought over her two week new born and laid him next to my sons. My sons weighed about 5 pounds at 2 weeks, still fitting loosely into their preemie clothes. Jackie’s son weighed just over 7 pounds at birth and was eating 4 ounce if not more! I’m not comparing her son to mines; I’m just astonished at how much mine have overcome in such a short time!
