Week 15: Interacting 9-15-07

Last month we purchased DVDs called “Little Einstein” for the babies to hear songs and interact with activities. The first time I played the DVD they lay their listening to the songs. I tried to move their arms and instinctively they locked their elbows and tucked their limbs into their bodies and closed their fists. We have continued to play the DVD songs and we keep moving their hands and holding their bodies. They smile and begin to “coo”! We’ll say “Jump,” as we lift them up. After a few jumps, when we say, “Jump,” they give us huge smiles because they know they are going to be lifted. They also know that if they cry enough, we will go and check on them.

We have been placing them on their stomachs. Max is able to left his head and turn it in all directions and “crawl” in the same spot. When he gets tired of “belly time,” he will lay his head down and not move. Sergio also tires to “crawl.” He keeps his head up and eyes down and peddles his legs fast. When he gets tired of “belly time,” he will roll himself over and onto his back.

Max loves when strangers approach him, he’ll flash his “GQ” smile at them and gets a ton of attention. Sergio also loves to smile, but he usually does it more for people he knows. The first couple of months, he was known to be “the grumpy baby.” He now loves to show of his smile and he’s very “talkative.” Both babies are now starting to “laugh.” I can feel their bodies began to vibrate and an “aaahhhh-ooohhhh” comes out with a giant smile. I think the laughing vibration tickles them from the inside because they will throw their arms up and out and arch their backs with an enormous gusto!

We are signing up this week for baby gym class, baby loves music class, and baby and me parenting classes. This is the step they are taking to prepare them for preschool, kindergarten, elementary, and Loyola High School, then college and on to whatever they want to become in life!
