Week 12: Chew on This! 8-25-07

The Experts say, “Your baby is becoming more vocal and observant. His vision is sharper and he notices facial features such as lips and eyebrows. His hands are grabbing and reaching out, and he likes to mouth or gum objects and stare at his hands.” Both babies taste their arms as if savoring the best barbeque ribs ever! They don’t suck on their thumbs; instead they gum their whole hand! Most of this gumming happens when they are starting to get hungry. If they see us smile and move our eyebrows along with our lips, the return the gesture with their own funny faces and smiles!

The Friday night of their shots, Max started to get a fever, which the doctor said was normal. He woke up Saturday morning wanting lots of attention. At 5 am all Ed and I wanted was sleep. Max cuddled with me till he fell asleep. At around 9am, I woke up and decided to give Max a kiss on his forehead. I did not realize his arm wrapped around my neck. As I pulled him down to give him his morning kiss, I felt his arm tug against my shoulder and instantly heard the snap of his shoulder joint! Within minutes both babies were in their car seats and in the car. We drove to the Bellflower Kaiser ER. The nurses asked what happened and quickly attended to Max. After a few hours and lots of questions, he was fine. Apparently, infant’s joints are not “welded” together yet, so they are flexible. Thank goodness everything turned out to be okay!!
