We headed to Long Beach at 9am, it was already 70 degrees in Whittier, however as we past Downey on the 605, it became very over cast and cold.
We recieved an invitation from the aquarium of the pacific to go on a free seal / sealion watching cruise. It was the boys first time on this type of boat so they sat still for the first five minutes. Then as they became used to the ship horn being blown every minute or so, they wanted to walk around and explore. Because it was so overcast the only thing we could see clearly were Cargo Ships, the size of the ships is astonishing when we went passed them! We saw boxes being loaded and unload from the port. As our trip came close the end, the sun broke through the clouds and at first sight, it looked like the seals were dead and floated up againt the rocks. Max said, "Look, Mom" I didn't know what to reply... how could i tell my kids that they probably ate trash and choked to death... Then I saw one roll into the ocean and swim. Thank goodness the AOP guide said that usually they lay still until there bodies begin to warm up.
The best $20 dollar toy ever is the cardboard box house they are playing in. It is torn and rebuilt with duck tape several times over! they love that thing... I thought the box would last (the most) 2 days, but we've had it for 3 weeks and it's still holding up (with lots of duck tape).
