The experts: The next six months will be among the busiest your baby will ever have. This is when he'll hone his large motor skills, which he needs for sitting, crawling, cruising, walking, throwing a ball, and (later) running, jumping, and riding a bicycle. To help exercise his developing muscles, frequently change his position so he can use different muscle groups. Stand him on your lap and let him bounce, pull him to a sitting or standing position, lift him in the air and fly her around--whatever strikes your fancy and his.
As if all this activity isn't enough, your little one is simultaneously developing his small motor skills. Eventually these will give him the dexterity he needs to feed himself, draw, write, brush his teeth, and tie his own shoes. To help develop these skills, give him activity boards, blocks, small balls (as long as they are too big to swallow), stuffed animals, and board books or books with cloth pages. Anything he can twist, squeeze, turn, open, close, poke, or bang will fit the bill.
Us: The day after Thanksgiving, Eddie set out to “win” the neighborhood decoration competition. We have so many lights; airplanes have come close to landing in our yard! Fortunately, the babies are old enough to admire the lights. We placed their swinging chairs outside while Eddie finished putting the final touches on our yard.
Loni and Albert came from Northern California to stay for a few days at my dad and mom’s home. Since my mom is recuperating, we decided to go over and visit her. Loni, Musico, the babies and I went for a stroll to the nearby park. We visited grandma Petra all week long. On Friday, Ed made grandma a Caldo de Res (Beef Soup) and we fed it to the babies. They love their vegetables!
On Sunday, Max kept rolling to his stomach to sleep. Ed and I kept turning returning him to his back. Eli is lifting his head and legs; he keeps them up for almost a minute.
